March 16, 2009, Ellicott City, MD– Columbia Builders has announced it will support Howard County's Blossoms of Hope program by planting Kwanzan cherry trees along the streets of its newest community of Hollifield Hills.

Located in northern Ellicott City in a secluded section of an established neighborhood off Old Frederick Road, Hollifield Hills will be the site of 42 single-family homes with Energy Star amenities.

Blossoms of Hope and the Cherry Tree Project are coordinated by the Howard County Tourism Office with a combined purpose – to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer, and to beautify the county with cherry trees.

Approximately 1,275 new trees have been planted across the county and more than $50,000 has been contributed to the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center at Howard County General Hospital, according to the project's Web site.

"The prized pink blossoms of these trees make them a distinctive amenity for this development of great new homes," said Columbia Builders founder Jim Greenfield.

"Though I didn't know Claudia Mayer well, she and I lived with our families in the same neighborhood for many years and she was well-known for her support of the hospital," he said.

"By planting these trees, Columbia Builders honors her legacy and gives back to the community at the same time."

Hollifield Hills backs up to Patapsco Valley State Park and offers five floor plans with many available upgrades on half-acre home sites.
