Columbia Builders is proud to be an
ENERGY STAR® partner...

...So much so that we exceed the program's requirements. We test and qualify every home we build, making sure they exceed the EPA's strict guidelines for energy-efficiency. As an ENERGY STAR partner, our goal is to ensure that our homes perform as well as they're designed – providing greater comfort and durability while increasing energy efficiency. We're a leader in the green building trend and ENERGY STAR construction. Come explore why.

Visit www.ENERGYSTAR.gov for more information.

How does your home qualify for the ENERGY STAR?

Your home will exceed guidelines for energy-efficiency set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. And if you are interested in green building, energy-efficiency is the place to start. Your ENERGY STAR home will include features such as:

Who verifies your new home, and how it's done.

An independent Home Energy Rater works on site – measuring, testing and inspecting during and after construction. (Independent Inspection and Testing). The rater verifies that your home meets the EPA's strict guidelines for energy-efficient and develops a Home Energy Rating Score (HERS). The HERS score for an ENERGY STAR home must show the home is 15% more energy efficient than a home built to the 2004 IRC standard. All ENERGY STAR homes built by Columbia Builders in 2009 produced results reflecting at least 25% more energy efficiency than a 2004 IRC standard home.

How ENERGY STAR Blue colors your home GREEN.

FACT: A typical home can cause twice the greenhouse gas emissions of the typical car. Typical ENERGY STAR features help protect the environment, in part, by creating an efficient Home Envelope. Since home energy often comes from the burning of fossil fuels at power plants, the more energy-efficient you make your home, the less air pollution you are helping to generate.

LEED for Homes is an internationally recognized green building certification system, and promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. Columbia Builders is proud to have been recognized for producing Maryland's first LEED Platinum certified home — The Awake House, a one-story, water and energy-efficient home serving four people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

When it comes to our future as homebuilders, you can color us green. Not only has Columbia Builders been recognized by MRGBC for specific projects, we are also involved on the leadership level, helping to promote green building technology, strategies and practices throughout the industry.
